Comment: Alrighty. Just a message to express my jealously of your trip. Been checking out your website over the last 6 months wishing I was still in Africa, but its inspiring me to be taking a year or two out pretty soon! You'll have to make sure you make it to the best country in the world...Scotland.No point in going most of the way up the world to stop before reaching paradise!

Comment: Hey Paul & Jacinda,
It has been so awesome following your trip through Africa. It has brought back loads of memories of our trip from Cape Town to Nairobi in 1999. You cannot experience, witness and live in Africa without being a slightly better person for it. So much more grateful and appreciative of what we have at home, yet in awe of a nature, that we will never know in Australia.
Keep safe and we look forward to catching up when you guys get home.
Love Tim, Sandra, Tayah & Griffin
Dear Paul and Jacinda,
It's fantastic to read of your wonderful journey
through Africa and the Middle East, as you head for my home city of London.
In 1973 my wife and I plus our two kids, then aged 6 and 3½, did something
similar, but in reverse through Africa i.e. we started in London and ended in
Capetown. We then shipped from Durban to Bombay to see India and Nepal,
before driving home overland via Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, etc.
Altogether we took just under a year (we didn't feel we could take the kids out
of school for longer); visited 26 countries; and covered well over 40,000 kms -
all by long wheelbase standard Land-Rover converted to sleep the 4 of us inside.
Wow, it was an incredible, unforgettable year, and I can imagine how much you
are enjoying your travels. I specially envy you taking the western route up
through Africa to Nairobi, and passing through Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt and parts
of the Middle East, but I'm guessing that you in turn may envy our being able to
cross the Sahara via Algeria & Niger and also pass through (then) Zaire
& Rwanda to reach Nairobi, after which we only did the tarmac run down via
Tanzania, Zambia and (then) Rhodesia to Jo'burg and Capetown.
Your blog/site is well presented and
interesting, and I have been enjoyingd browsing through it. Lots of luck with
the rest of your travels, and have a great celebration in London!
:-)
With warm regards, and in
genuine admiration of what you are doing - Tim Wrey

Comment: Read your story from cover to cover and what a story, as I am planning a trip like your one I was going to take a 110 defender but you have convinced me a Disco is better. I also plan to take my two kids with me boy is 15 girl is 12 what is your view on this? did you meet any overlanders with kids on your trip? once again thanks for a great story.
Hi James - We hope you have a great time. The kids should enjoy it. We have met several overlanders who have their children with them and even home school them along the way. As for the Disco, its not better just different. It is all about pros and cons. The defender actually has more room and can carry more weight which could be a big factor with the whole family to fit in. It is also more rugged, and might suit you a little better perhaps...Enjoy no matter what you end up with.
